[Fashion Designer]

Designer Mark Kenly Domino Tan launched his eponymous brand in 2014 after developing his craft in International fashion houses Dior, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen.

He set out to create vibrant and refined collections founded on tailoring, construction, and fine textiles. Impeccable quality and craftsmanship are at the heart and soul of the Mark Kenly Domino Tan aesthetic.

The tailored Atelier collections, made according to the couture tradition, can be found in the adjacent design studio in central Copenhagen.

While various boundaries have been broken as a result of a digital fashion week, there are some things that just can't be replicated via a camera…maybe it's seeing the collections in real life, experiencing the electric atmosphere, or the ability to witness the designer's skill up-close. This season, this sentiment couldn't be more relevant when looking at Danish designer Mark Kenly Domino Tan's AW21 collection. Trained as a tailor, Tan worked in the ateliers in Paris before getting into design. With his extensive experience, he understands how to translate his knowledge into long-lasting pieces with extraordinary craftsmanship. Witnessing his technique upfront is awe-inspiring, something which we eagerly look forward to seeing again in person.

Tan is a firm believer that neutrals are the foundation of a wardrobe, as seen in his natural palette of black, grey, and ivory. With this colour scheme, Tan wanted to create items that one can incorporate into their wardrobe for years to come, by designing pieces that are made to last and that can be styled with others: "I really like the idea that a person at the age of 20 can buy a garment, and when the person turns 60, there will still be a coherency throughout the collection." explained Tan.

Tan believes in the importance of starting with the fabric first and emblematic of life at home, he worked with fabrics that were comforting and connecting, like herringbone tweed. Stemming from his background as a tailor, menswear silhouettes dominated throughout his hypnotic, trance-like show. He showcased his diverse, co-ed collection in an airy, open space which enabled full movement.

Getting down to business; oversized blazers with exaggerated sleeves stood alongside more tailored blazers, underlining how you always need more than one blazer in your wardrobe. These large blazers were draped over even larger button-downs, giving a uniform feel to each, through the use of fabric and colour. Alongside the tailoring, relaxed capes and ponchos were paired with turtlenecks, and belted robe coats provided a contrast between structured tailoring and movement while also highlighting comfort. Each piece was enveloped in another, creating a skilfully, tailored package. A carefully crafted balancing act between shape and motion, Mark Kenly Domino Tan is taking tailoring to the next level and we are here to witness it (even if it is through a camera).
