Isaac Fenech, a final-year student at the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts, took home the top honor in the Local New and Up-and-Coming Fashion Designer category at the Malta Fashion Awards held last weekend.

Other nominees in the category included MCAST Fashion Bachelor’s degree alumni Yentil Cuschieri and Gabriel Grima, along with final-year students Mirianna Ciappara, Radina Dimitrova, Gabriel Grima, and Nicolai Sciuto.
Each designer showcased their graduate collections, which were the result of months of hard work and creativity. Fenech’s collection stood out for its strong concept and exceptional craftsmanship, earning him the award.
Malta Fashion Week served as a significant platform for these emerging designers. To qualify, participants had to present collections that met stringent standards of quality, concept, and craftsmanship, ensuring only the most promising talents were recognized.

The preparation for the event involved months of tireless work, with MCAST ICA students dedicating countless hours to perfecting their collections. Their aim was to demonstrate the culmination of their skills, education, and experiences at the college.
Malta Fashion Week also provided students with valuable real-world experience, helping to prepare them for future independent shows. The exposure even led to some students receiving customer orders for their garments.

In presenting the award, Malta Fashion Week executive producer Adrian J. Mizzi stated: “These students are the future of fashion design in Malta, and they’ve chosen to make fashion design their career.”
