MCAST Student Honored with Up-and-Coming Fashion Designer Award

Isaac Fenech, a final-year student at the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts, took home the prestigious Local New and Up-and-Coming Fashion Designer award at the Malta Fashion Awards held last weekend.

The nominees in this category included MCAST Fashion Bachelor’s degree alumni Yentil Cuschieri and Gabriel Grima, along with final-year students Mirianna Ciappara, Radina Dimitrova, Gabriel Grima, and Nicolai Sciuto. Each designer presented their graduate collections, showcasing months of dedication and creativity. Fenech’s collection stood out to the judges with its compelling concept and exceptional craftsmanship.

The Malta Fashion Week provided a valuable platform for these emerging designers, with each collection needing to meet high standards of quality, concept strength, and garment craftsmanship to be selected. The rigorous selection process ensured that only the most promising talents were featured.

Preparing for the event required months of hard work, as MCAST ICA students honed their collections, determined to showcase the culmination of their education, skills, and experiences.

The Future of Fashion in Malta

Participating in Malta Fashion Week gave these students a real-world fashion show experience, preparing them for independent shows in the future. The exposure also brought tangible benefits, with some students receiving customer orders for their designs.

In presenting the award, Malta Fashion Week executive producer Adrian J. Mizzi remarked, “The students are the future of fashion design in Malta, and these students have chosen to make fashion design their career.”
